Wasco Electric linemen visit local schools to lead electrical safety lessons
At the end of April, Wasco and Sherman County elementary school students participated in a Wasco Electric Cooperative demonstration that featured the importance of electrical safety. Electrical safety demonstrations teach students the dangers of electricity and important safety tips, such as what to do when they see a downed power line.
Lineman Dan Funkhouser used a display the kids can relate to—a house, barn, trees, power lines, and tractors— and teaches them what can happen if they come in contact with a downed power line.
Lineman BJ Ayres showed the youngsters the important safety tools used when maintaining and repairing power lines. After the display, he showed students how the bucket truck works.
Wasco Electric asked students to draw pictures, some seen here, of what they learned from the demonstrations. The original drawings are also on display in the co-op office and on the co-op’s Facebook page.
