What the March 2026 Rate Adjustment Means for Members

By Lindsay Forepaugh

In the January Ruralite, we shared information about the 9% rate adjustment scheduled to take effect next month and the factors driving that change. We know this is an important topic, and we want to continue the conversation by focusing on what this adjustment means for you—and how your cooperative is working on your behalf.

What Members Can Expect

The upcoming adjustment will be reflected on billing statements beginning in March. For most members, this increase will vary depending on individual energy use. While no increase is welcome, spreading costs gradually allows the cooperative to remain financially sound while continuing to provide safe, reliable electric service.

Between now and March, our team will continue to communicate details and offer tools to help members better understand and prepare for the change.

Why Planning Matters

As a member-owned cooperative, we take a long-term approach to decision-making. Adjusting rates thoughtfully and proactively helps us avoid more dramatic increases in the future and ensures we can continue maintaining the electric system that serves our communities.

This includes preparing for rising wholesale power costs, maintaining infrastructure, responding to outages quickly and planning for future projects across our service territory.

Supporting Members Through the Transition

We recognize that every household and business is different. That’s why we offer energy-efficiency resources, energy use insights and practical tips to help members manage their electric costs. Small changes, such as adjusting thermostat settings, sealing air leaks or upgrading lighting, can make a meaningful difference over time.

Our member services team is available to answer questions and help you better understand your bill.

The cooperative offers free home and business energy audits to help reduce costs by implementing energy-efficiency measures such as adding insulation, upgrading windows, and heating and cooling systems.

Staying Connected

Your cooperative is committed to openness, accountability, and service. We will continue to share updates, answer questions, and listen to feedback as we move closer to March.

Thank you for being engaged and informed members of Wasco Electric Cooperative. Together, we can navigate change while continuing to power the homes, farms, and communities we’re proud to serve.
