How to Get Help
If you’re struggling to pay your electric bill, you don’t have to face it alone. Here’s how the process works:
- Contact the Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC), at 541-298-5131, they determine eligibility for WECare assistance.
- Complete an application with MCCAC, who will verify your eligibility based on need.
- Once approved, Wasco Electric Cooperative credits your account directly — no separate check or paperwork on your end.

Am I Eligible?
WECare is an income-qualified assistance program for Wasco Electric members facing hardship that threatens their ability to keep the heat or cooling on at home. Eligibility is determined by the Mid-Columbia Community Action Council, and is generally based on household income and need.
Approved members can receive a bill credit of up to $200 once per 12-month period.

WECare assistance is limited to once per 12-month period, so members can make the most of available funds and we can help as many neighbors as possible. If your situation changes or you need help again down the road, you're welcome to reapply in the next program year.

Ways to Give
Your donation — of any size — goes directly to helping Wasco Electric Cooperative members stay warm in winter and cool in summer.
- With your monthly bill: Look for your WECare donation coupon in your billing envelope each fall. Choose an amount — $1, $5, $10, $25, or any amount you’d like and return it with your payment.
- By mail: Send a check or money order payable to Wasco Electric Coop-WECare to PO Box 1700, The Dalles, OR 97058.
- By phone: Call 541-296-2740 to donate by Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.
- In person: Stop by our office at 105 East 4th Street, The Dalles, OR.
All donations are tax-deductible. Every dollar donated stays local, 100% goes toward helping neighbors in our own service area.
Our Impact
Thanks to the generosity of Wasco Electric members, WECare has helped families across our community stay connected to the power they depend on. Last year alone, member donations helped 34 families in our service area during times of real financial hardship.
