Phone Scam

Wasco Electric Cooperative is warning members that a telephone scam is occurring locally.

WEC has received reports from members about calls from someone claiming to be from the “power company”. During the conversation, a person states that the member owes money on a utility bill and will be disconnected immediately if a payment is not made.

If WEC is requiring payment we accept traditional payment methods of cash, check, credit and debit cards.  It is never necessary for you to buy a separate prepaid card to avoid disconnection.

If you think someone is trying to scam you, contact Wasco Electric Cooperative to find out if payment is due and remember that scammers can make it look like they’re calling from the utility when they are calling from somewhere else.

If you are unsure whether a call is actually from Wasco Electric Cooperative, you should hang up and call our office immediately.
