Life Support Program
Wasco Electric maintains a list of customers who cannot live without the use of electrically powered medical equipment. In the event of a planned outage, WEC will make every effort to notify the resident or the third party designee. In the event of an unplanned outage, every attempt will be made to restore power to this address on a priority basis.
Members agree to notify Wasco Electric immediately if circumstances change and/or life support assistance is no longer needed.
To be included on the cooperative's life support list:
- A residential customer must submit a completed life support program enrollment application, which must be signed by a qualified medical professional, which states that disconnection of electric service would significantly endanger the physical health of an occupant at the service address.
- Applications must include:
- The name of the person to whom the exemption applies and relationship to the customer;
- Name and phone number of an emergency contact not living with the patient;
- A statement indicating how long the health condition is expected to require life sustaining equipment, short (less than 6 months) or long term.
- The printed name, signature and phone number of the qualified medical professional certifying the medical need.
- A life support application shall be valid for the length of time the health endangerment is certified to exist.
- A customer with a life support application on file is not exempt from disconnection and is not excused from paying for utility service. The customer is required to enter into a written time-payment agreement with the Cooperative when an overdue balance exists. If said customer fails to enter into a written time-payment agreement, or to abide by its terms, the Cooperative will disconnect service after providing notice in advance of disconnection for nonpayment pursuant to the Cooperative's Policies.
